PAMPAS WINGS
creating magic
Created for Rachel at Designer Her Co, for their Magical Luncheon.
These were a dream to create.
Step by Step Guide
What You'll Need
Materials
Pampas grass ( around 100 stems)
Wooden/chipboard Rectangle (around A3 Size)
Staple Gun
Chicken wire
Wire cutters
Floral Snips
Removable hooks (we used Command Strips with a 5kg weight limited)
Step 1
First we attach the chicken wire to the board.
Use your wire cutters to cut the wire to size.
Fold down the edges and staple.
We started by stapling the edges first, then placing around 10 staples around the centre of the board to ensure when the pampas is threaded through, it has stability.
Things to note:
It’s important to only attach the wire to the front side of the board. No wire, or edges should be on the back.
This is to prevent any damage to the wall.
the side that attaches to the wall should remain free of anything (expect your command strips/removable hooks.)
Dont’t forget to tag us in your creations!!!

Step 2
Attach the command strips.
We chose the Command Large Picture Hanging Strips White these sit flush with the wall and have a 5 or 7kg weigh rating.
We attached one on each corner of the board.
Then attach the back of strips to the ones on the board.
Then attach to the wall where you want the wings to sit.
Things to note:
It’s important to select the right position on the wall, you won’t want to move these once they are created.
Remember that the top wings are usually larger than the bottom, so account for this.
Step 3
Next begin weaving you pampas stems.
This step is the longest and most important.
Take your time to build the initial shape.
Select the stems that are the largest and fluffiest to begin making an X.
This will serve as your guide for the overall shape.
Continue weaving and crossing your stems until your satisfied.
As your wings start to take shape, beginning selecting smaller stems and make an effort to cover the stem part of the grass.
You want to start to “cover your mechanics”.
This means cover any unsightly parts of the stem so your result is fluffy angelic wings.
Things to note:
You may want to incorporate other dried flowers to cover your mechanics, ie hydrangeas, leather fern ect,
